After a year and a half of dating, MGK decided to pop the question! The two embarked on a romantic trip to Puerto Rico for what Megan believed was a normal vacation. They traveled to a spot they had visited together when they started dating. This spot holds a lot of meaning to the couple, as it was where they first realized the depths of their bond. On January 11th, MGK got down on one knee and asked Megan to marry him.
According to Megan’s Instagram post, she was taken by complete surprise and adored the sweetness and thought that MGK put into the proposal. The setting was gorgeous, with a picturesque sunset lighting the sky behind them. They stood beneath a banyan tree, where they had once sat down and conversed over the future of their relationship. It truly seemed to be an incredibly touching moment, showcasing the deep love between these unique individuals. The ring was designed by the rapper, along with the help of a professional jeweler. The ring is comprised of two bands, which MGK had designed to look like horns. The oddest part? MGK conceptualized the ring with two bands, which is considered a “Toi et Moi” or “you and me” style of engagement ring. He then had it made so the two rings can come apart, but when they’re together, they are held in place by a magnet. MGK described in an interview that he is well aware traditional engagement rings only have one band. However, he and his jeweler chose to design the two magnetic bands with thorns, holding two different stones. One is a thoroughbred Colombian emerald – meant to symbolize Megan’s birthstone. The emerald is entirely untreated, only being cut into a teardrop shape. The other stone is a diamond, which is used to symbolize MGK’s birthstone.
The magnets that MGK wanted to be included, to attach the two rings, are buried within the white gold of the band. This way, the two rings appear to be intrinsically attached, sitting together perfectly upon Megan’s finger. He describes the magnetic pull of the rings in comparison to the level of attraction and connection he and his fiancé share.
